The 2018 DTM season was extremely successful for Mercedes-Benz: Gary Paffett wins the drivers' championship for the second time since 2005 and becomes DTM champion. He made the title perfect on October 14, 2018 in the second race at the Hockenheimring with a third place. Mercedes-AMG Motorsport also won the 2018 team and manufacturers championships. In total, 2018 brought the Mercedes-AMG Motorsport DTM team nine race wins (including five double victories and a total of 28 podium places), twelve fastest race laps and 14 pole positions. This balance underlines: Mercedes-AMG Motorsport is the most successful team in DTM history. Since entering the DTM at the factory, the Stuttgart brand has won eleven drivers 'championships with a total of 195 victories and 14 manufacturers' titles. At the height of its success, Mercedes-AMG is withdrawing from the DTM at the end of the 2018 season and will be involved in Formula E from 2019. The reduction in aerodynamic add-on parts for the entire vehicle has reduced downforce by around a third. The aim of this measure is to enable better racing on the track. If the vehicles are unstable on the track, the chance of one or the other driving error is possible and allows the direct competitor to start an overtaking maneuver.

The highlight of the season was the 2nd place at the Norisring and of course the victory at the Nürburgring.
