Does anybody know that the top speed is for the 2005 Ford Mustang GT with V8 engine?:eyepoppin

Well, of course. Out of the factory, though, it's electronically limited to 140.

I've heard 143 is what the computer limits it to. I've been 140, then I let off the gas. It took some time to get from 120 to 140. I can't see it going much over 150 stock.

i read in a magazine it can go to 180s.
So

I heard the limiter is at 143.............I've had mine at around 135 and the hood looked like it was going to fly off. That, and the fact that it steers too quick at those speeds scared the hell out of me.

I heard 180's also,with help from some steeda products
My dealer told me that with some plug in's and tuning 188 is possible Ido not know how true it is. Anyone have info?

Car and Driver magazine said Ford speed governor is 143 but if removed should top out at 160 mph.

Yeah right. A Dodge Viper has 500 HP and is a much better sports car all around than the Mustang, and the Viper will top out at 189.
Not in this lifetime.

Its capped at 140ish.
You may be able to get a buck 50 without the hood flying off.:thumbsup

Bringing some insight to this old post for a moment....
The dodge viper through all of the generations it was made could hit at least 200 mph. the 3rd gen hits 204 easily....
You can get a mustang to run 180mph its just a matter of how fast your wallet will let you go....

From what I understand the governor is set to 141 out of the box. With just a tune I've heard of people getting into the 150s pretty easily and even heard of 1 person hitting 160 which I believe is the top of 4th gear. (Redline depending on your gearing of course)
With mods, That's another story... with a blower you could grab fifth and keep going.
I sold my 06 GT Vert and waiting for the 2011s with the 5.0s to come out. Believe me, I MISS my White Stallion but sold it while it brought a premium.
I didn't have much problem with hood float with mine but that's because I adjusted my hood stops pretty tight against the latch shortly after I noticed a little 'hood flop' going on right after I got the car. I'm not going to say how fast I had my Stang up to but let's say it was WELL north of what is ordinate and I didn't have any more problems with the hood after tightening up the hood stops. Concerning hood float, some of the problem is definitely due to how the air flows through the engine bay but some of it is how the hood is adjusted as well, as I can attest personally.
I can't wait to get my hands on the new 5.0s when they come out. 400+ hp with a weight about 300 less pounds than the new Camaro? Should be an easy 12's right out of the box.

Been over 140 here, not sure how fast really, was not really paying attn to the speedo.Country road, on the spray, so it got there quick:bigthumbsup

I removed my limiter a few days after I got the car so I have no idea what that is. I was told 140mph though.
Stock w/ a X pipe and axle back with a 3.31 the fastest I could get mine to go was 148mph on GPS.
W/ a 2.6 KB (440rwhp), GT500 front end and hood, belly pan sealed from slitter to K-member and side to side I got 187MPH out of it. Without the belly pan and GT500 hood I'm sure it would have been at least 10mph slower.
Before spring the entire car will have a belly pan front to back with a rear diffuser (see pics below of the Agent 47 car)……and 650hp. I'm guessing 205-210mph.

Looking at those pics make me wonder one thing...
Where the heck does the exhaust exit?
I even zoomed in thinking it might be side exit, but it doesn't look like there is anywhere for it to come out. Those vents on the rear don't have any pipes coming out either. Definitely a 'Where's Waldo' picture.
Maybe it is just too early in the morning.:hihi:
