I'm looking at buying a new zx6r, in Sydney there's some 2010 models still for sale and some of the 2011 (essentially the same bike from what I'm told).
Does anyone own one of these or can tell me about any problems that there are with this model?
From what I've read it's been a large improvement on the last model, which a mate of mine owned and had a lot of warranty issues with.
Basically I just want to buy a hassle free bike and would like to know if this is one of those models?

I have ridden a stock one compared to my modded 06 it wasnt enought to make me switch but still a very capable and fun bike to ride... in comparison it feels similar to another friend of mine's 06 GSXR. my 06 ZX6 has a higeer seat compared to the GSXR or the 09 I rode which both bikes seemed to flick better than mine but the power delivery of my full exhaust and power comander was more responsive than the other 2. If I was in the market though I would definatly consider a an 09-11 zx6r very fun bikes as many people around here agree from more of a first hand basis

I ride an 09, which is virtually the same. I have had no problems with mine at all. It's a little lighter and has a lower center than the previous years. The only thing I have "had" to do so far is put a set of tires on it at about 4,000 miles. I love the bike!

I ride a 09 zx6r. It's been trouble free since day one. I think stock tires on it are teh suck. I don't know how much they had to do with the lowside I had last year but even before my crash I felt them slipping in corners. My cheap ass should of replaced them a lot sooner that would of saved me $3,000. Other than the shitty stock tires it is one of the best bikes I've ever owned. I do enjoy riding it. Getting a little tougher riding these little bikes the older I get though. I'll be 30 this month. I've got 2840 miles on it in the 8 months I've owned it and it was down at least a month of that time for repairs.

I'm chiming in here too... My '09 (Same bike as the '10 and '11) has gotten 11,500 miles put on her since May of last year. Not one issue. She runs like a champ. I'm about to change out the plugs, do a coolant flush, change brake fluid, and a bunch of other stuff too.
Buy it!

I ride a 2011 zx6r purchased in 0ct. 2011, it is now sept 2012, and I have 12256 miles to the day...I have had no problems, and I ride the shit out of my bike daily, I am on my third set of battlaxes. I run a PCV with an autotune, full race header, and a slash cut gp exhaust...needless to say it runs like an animal, power wheelies 1st gear all day, and runs at about 116 db...all in all before my many mods, it ran smooth as silk, and still does after my mods, just a lot more bit, and hella louder....great bike over all...

I had a 2009. It was stolen. I bought a brand new 2011. Exact same bike... That's how much I loved it. I've got almost 10,000 miles on my 11 now and haven't had a single issue with it, besides the rectifier recall which took up about an hour or 2 of my time. No big deal. And I would assume that whatever ones are at the dealer would have been changed already of they fell under the recall.
I've owned a GSXR, a Yamaha, and rode CBRs more then a few times. Also rode my frieds 07 zx6r and my bike is hands down the best bike I've owned or ridden IMO. I don't think you will be disappointed in the slightest bit with this generation zx6r.

I have an '09, one of the best rides I have, 8600 miles and no problems at all thus far. Great motor and great handling!:mfclap
Keep good rubber on it though, I get about 3000 miles front and rear out of a set of BT-016 Pros and like all Ninjas I've owned, this bike is very sensitive to good tires. Must have something to do with the steering damper or frame geometry since I can run the tires bald on my '07 CBR1000RR and it doesn't seem to care. I've owned two ZX-10Rs, a Gen 3 and now a Gen 4 and they are the same way, razor sharp handling on fresh rubber but let it deteriorate and the handling gets spooky.
I would say buy it, IMHO, the ZX-6R is the best value in a Supersport on the market today, it is a do it all bike, track or road it is tops.:crazyloco

I had to get the rectifier replaced, but there's a recall on it now, so you should be good.

I received the recall notice but haven't taken it in yet, so far the charging system has operated perfectly.
How many miles when yours failed?

I am the best person to help you in this.
I had an 07 and trade it in for a 2010.
I think the 07 had more grunt. mine was stock
and the 10 had better handleling.
If I were you though I would save my money and get the new
one with ABS AND TC.
that is a must!!
I have an r6 and the zx bikes are better to me.
more powerful and better build quality..
